Ringwood traders organise Christmas event after popular annual parade is cancelled

DISAPPOINTED Ringwood traders have organised their own Christmas event after the popular annual parade was cancelled.

Following news the traditional Ringwood procession through the town would not take place this year due to no-one coming forward to organise it, traders and local people have organised a new venture.

Trevor Johnson from Paperview in Christchurch Road, said: ?As a six-year trader in the town, I was also quite disappointed by the lack of an event.

?So a few of us got together to do something new, and I think we have created quite a magical event.

?It?s important for a town to have something at Christmas. It?s not just a Santa hunt, a lot of work has gone into organising this at the last minute, so we are hoping it will be as good as the parade.

?We wanted to turn a bad news story into a good news story.

?This is an event the whole family can take part in.

?It would be lovely to get a lot of people in Ringwood for the event to celebrate Christmas.?

The group has devised a hunt for Santa Claus which has children solving clues and completing tasks in various places to get one step nearer to meeting Santa, with a bit of help from Forest Forge Theatre Company.

Starting from the Elf Station outside Paperview the youngsters will be led to Santa?s magical grotto in a courtyard together with some four-legged friends including miniature donkeys, as well as carol singers.

All the children taking part will get a present.

The free event is also supported by the Rotary Club.

It will take place on Tuesday, December 18 between 3.30pm and 7.30pm.

Ringwood Town Council has also agreed to free parking for the event.
